There are many reasons why you should replace air filters regularly. The proper amount of air flow across the evaporator coils is crucial due to the way air conditioners are designed. Air conditioners are built to remove the heat from inside of your home or business. Heat is removed via the inside coil of your AC unit.
If the air coming out of the various air ducts seems to not be blowing out as hard as before. Then it is possible that your inside coil has frozen up due to lack of airflow. It could be caused by a dirty air filter or dirty evaporator coils. You can remedy this by turning the AC to OFF, and the Fan to the ON position. This should melt the iced up coil. Dollar Mechanical offers a preventative maintenance solution to this problem by chemically cleaning the evaporator coils.
Many lesser quality filters will allow particles to pass through the filter material. Dollar Mechanical will always recommend using pleated filters over the polyester fiber filters. We recommend taking a quick peek at your AC filter about every 2 weeks after the first month to see if it is in need of replacement. Here in Arizona, the dust storms during the monsoon seasons will cause your filters to become restricted far more quickly than other spots in the country.
